General Information

Global Data Communications

The exchange of E-Mail and IP-based information is vital for the successful planning and execution of military operations. Interoperable data exchange within joint and allied forces over long distance High Frequency - HF- radio networks is essential in these operations especially if communication via other infrastructure like satellites is not possible.

The NATO standard STANAG 5066 defines the leading radio protocol in HF data communications. The standard is very widely accepted and used by the forces of NATO, but also many non-NATO countries around the globe.

STANAG 5066 has proven to be the mature standard with a high level of interoperability between different products.

Due to strong know how in HF radio communications systems Rohde & Schwarz can provide STANAG 5066 based data communications solutions satisfying most demanding customer requirements. R&S® STANAG 5066 is available as a stand alone product using a single HF radio line and has obvious benefits in case of beeing integrated into complex multi radio line communications systems like SIMCOS II with high security requirements.

In order to support a full Red Black separation for the HF data communication system Rohde & Schwarz provides so called Trusted Filters. Those Filters can be inserted into the serial interface lines between a (Red) R&S® STANAG 5066 server and the controlled (Black) HF radio/ modem. The filters will allow only a limited and exactly defined set of remote control commands to pass through from the R&S® STANAG 5066 server. The trusted filters will immediately block any other data that may pass the serial control lines. A list of radio /modem devices that are supported by the Trusted Filter can be provided on request.
